ITN act for tunnel protesters in court victory

7/10/2021

ITN solicitors secured the acquittal yesterday of six environmental activists at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court. They were prosecuted for aggravated trespass after occupying tunnels built under Euston Square Gardens in January and February this year in a protest that attracted huge media interest. However, the District Judge dismissed the charges after ruling that there was no evidence construction work had begun on the site prior the tunnel eviction.

ITN’s Simon Natas, who acted for the defendants, said “the protesters always maintained that they did not commit the offence of aggravated trespass, They have now been vindicated”.

Simon co-defended at trial with Tim James-Matthews of Matrix Chambers.
