Somia is an Assistant Solicitor in the Family Department and joined ITN in April 2018. Since qualifying as a solicitor in 2008 she has practiced exclusively in Children’s Law. She has experience of advising on a range of issues in this area and has a particular interest in child protection and care proceedings. She regularly conducts her own advocacy at all levels of court.
She has experience of conducting highly complex cases, including those involving non-accidental injuries, sexual abuse and radicalisation. In recent years she has represented parties in proceedings under the Inherent Jurisdiction of the High Court for permission to deprive a child of their liberty and is well versed in the emerging case law in this area.
Somia is a member of the Law Society Children Panel and regularly accepts instructions from Children’s Guardians. She also has experience of representing children separately.
Somia is a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Lawyers for Children and is a member of the Equality and Diversity and Legal Aid Sub-Committees.
